mixed media on paper

Bengisu Bayrak works are visualized through paintings, photographic representations, and installations, and are involved with little stories within the common perceptions of grand narratives that ignore the variety of means of existence. She investigates the credibility of the existing representations embedded in the official narratives and finds her subjects in ephemera and “unimportant” documents, as well mainstream representations in mass media.

Nature writes a whole new story under the influence of humans. Whether this story will have a good or a bad ending is not the issue, what matters is the time we spend on the way there. The more life moves away from nature, the earth re-forms itself anew and from below. In her artistic practice, she am striving to write a self-reflective story that is influenced by these new forms. Her greatest inspiration is to imagine the bits and pieces of her long and short-term memory within the present moment and form them. Departing from her personal reality, her artistic practice conveys an inquisitive process.
